Six Prophecies |
||
| Since the spring of
1994, before I had completed my doctorate, I had been in contact with
Bethany College with respect to beginning a satellite program in
Sacramento. They were open to the idea, and we interacted for a long two
years.
During this time, six people prophesied over me that I would be teaching in a greater capacity than at Capital Bible Institute. I did not seek out the prophesies. Twice, I was praying for someone and then in turn the person would prophesy over me. The first prophecy came through a student of mine, Deann Carter in the Spring of 1995. I had prayed for her after class one evening, and then she said she wanted to pray for me. After her prayer, she said that while praying she saw a vision of ocean waves rolling in on the beach. To her this meant that I was going to have a teaching position and nothing could prevent it—nothing could hold back the waves. The second person, a friend Roxanne Knowlton, was staying in our home for a few days and wanted to pray for me. After praying, she had a definite assurance that God would bring the teaching position to pass. The third person, another student Catherine Walline, had asked me to pray for her and then she wanted to pray for me. When she finished, she said, "You have the job." I said that I had been seeking it, but I didn’t know if it would come to pass. She said, "No you DO have the job; I KNOW this from the Lord." Shirley Hackney was the fourth person who prophesied. While I was visiting at her home in January of 1996, she told me that God had given her a message for me, but she wasn’t sure she should give it to me because it wasn’t pleasant. Finally, she did, stating that God was preparing me for the teaching position, but she saw in a vision that I would have to go through a time of deep suffering first. At the time, I thought her prophecy was contradictory to the others I had received, and I was confused. The fifth person was a friend named Bette Henke. When we were talking on the phone, she said she wanted to pray for me. Then as she was praying, she said that she saw a vision of a bright light and an open door that no man could shut because Christ was keeping it open for me. The sixth prophecy came through another student, Ed McCarley. As a side note about Ed, one time when I was teaching a spiritual growth class, I had to have my thyroid removed. Ed decided to go to the hospital and pray for me during the operation. When I awoke from surgery, I had no pain. I attribute this to God answering Ed’s prayers on my behalf. Sometime later, God had given Ed a word for me, so he wrote it down in a letter and sent it to me. It pertained to God fulfilling His vision and calling for me. Actually the words were in a book by Dick Mills, He Spoke and I was Strengthened — Daniel 10:19, which Ed thought applied to me. Below are the words of the book which Ed sent to me: A Word from the Lord for Teachers Isaiah 50:4 (NASB) I will reveal myself to you by
my Word and Spirit. Truly, All kinds of knowledge will
increase, Therefore know this: I am fulfilling my prophecies in you. Look again to my Word. Haven’t I promised you that I would give you a
mouth and wisdom "A word spoken in due season, how good it is," Proverbs 15:13. A Word from the Lord for Those Awaiting Fulfillment Page 138 Habakkuk 2:3 (NASB) 3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal, and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay. You have looked back, remembering the vision I gave you.
With this Again, I did not seek any of these prophecies. I even had forgotten about them at one point, but they were encouraging when I did think about them.
